This post shows you Easter egg hunt clues for kids that you can easily recreate.
As a parent, we can spend a considerable amount of time getting everything ready for Holidays, like decorating the house, planning gifts, and making special moments and memories for the kiddos.
Easter egg hunts with clues are always a MUST in our house!

Picture this: your kiddos racing around, searching high and low for plastic eggs, each one containing a clue that leads them one step closer to the ultimate Easter treasure. Usually I put their Easter basket as the big final prize, but do what works for you and your family. Kids love hunting for eggs as the main event, too!
The only thing is, placing all the eggs and planning an exciting Easter morning can be tricky to do because you LIKELY have to wait until the kids are in bed to set up! Usually by that time we’re all getting a little sleepy ourselves, aren’t we?!
I used to laugh at how difficult it was to come up with rhymes and clues in the late hours of the night…
With that in mind, I wanted to make Easter morning easier for parents out there, and share some of my favorite rhyming clues for the eggs that will hopefully make Easter morning a breeze for you.
So grab your baskets, lace up your sneakers, and get ready to embark on an egg-citing adventure that will have the fam smiling from ear to ear.
Follow these instructions and take traditional Easter egg hunt to a new level by incorporating clever clues hidden inside plastic eggs scattered around your house or outside (weather permitting).
It’s an egg-cellent way (haha, sorry) to keep them entertained and engaged while adding an extra dash of excitement to your Easter celebration. Let the hunt begin! 🐰🥚🔍
How to make Easter eggs with rhyming clues
Gather Your Supplies:
- Plastic eggs (enough for each clue, I usually do 10-12 for each child)
- Small chocolates, candies, or toys to place inside each egg (scroll down for recommendations)
- Paper for printer, or writing the clues
- Printer, or Pen/marker if hand-writing clues
Write Your Clues:
- Use the clues in this post (below), or brainstorm a series of clues that will lead the kids from one location to the next.
- Keep the clues age-appropriate and fun! You can incorporate rhymes, riddles, or simple instructions.
- Make sure each clue leads to the next egg location and eventually to the final treasure.
Set Up the Clues:
- Write out or print out each clue on paper
- Cut out each clue with scissors
- Roll up each clue and place it inside a plastic egg along with a chocolate, candy, or trinket.
- Make sure the clues are arranged in the correct order. Numbering them or placing them as you go can help keep things in order.
Hide The Eggs:
- Hide the eggs in various locations around your house or outdoor area. Be creative with your hiding spots, but make sure they’re accessible and safe for participants of all ages.
Start the Hunt:
- How you start is up to you; you can place the first egg in an obvious place for them to find on their own, give them a clue of the first egg’s hiding place, or simply hand the kids an egg and explain how it works. The choice is yours!
- As they find each egg, they’ll discover a treat or toy and a clue leading them to the next location.
Find the Treasure:
- Once the kids have followed all the clues, they’ll reach the final location for their last egg, or that leads them to their Easter treasure, depending on what you choose to do.
- This could be an Easter basket filled with goodies, a special prize, or simply a cute note congratulating them on completing the hunt!
Celebrate and Enjoy:
- Once the hunt is over, gather everyone together to enjoy their bounty and celebrate a successful Easter egg hunt!
- Don’t forget to take lots of photos to capture the fun memories of the day.
Pre-Made Easter Egg Hunt Rhyming Clues
You can customize these, print them, trim into strips, and place in each egg!
“Happy Easter, ___ ! Let’s have some eggs-tra fun! Follow the bunny trail and find the final prize when you’re done! The hunt has begun, so think like a winner. Where do you go when it’s time to eat dinner?”
(Hidden near/under table) “Look at that, you found me! I love leaving clues around your house with treats for your belly. The next egg can be found surrounding peanut butter and jelly…”
(Hidden in bread box/bread bag) “Hmmm. Where did the bunny hide the next clue? Hippity Hoppity your way to look inside your shoe.”
(Hidden in shoe) “Still looking for me? Perhaps the next clue is what you seek. Where do you go to give the plants a drink? Fill me up from the kitchen sink!”
(Hidden near/under kitchen sink/watering can) “Eggsellent, well done! You must have your thinking cap on. The next clue may be hard to spot… It’s where the postman puts things in a white box…”
(Hidden in mailbox) “Brrr! It’s cold out here! My next hiding place is somewhere much warmer, and here’s a clue… I have a sound that goes beep, and my main function is to heat.”
(Hidden in microwave or oven) “It’s time for the next clue, where do you think I’ll be? Here’s a clue: I’m full of paper and ink, but I am not a book like you might think!”
(Hidden in printer) “Aha, you found me! Nicely done. That clue was hard, now on to the next one. I heard you have a cat/dog, ______ (name of pet), is it? Find the next one where you fill his/her gullet…”
(Hidden in pet’s food/treat bag) “Good searching ___ ! For the next clue, look for me where you watch your favourite show; I am large, square, and at night I like to glow.”
(Hidden around TV) “Yay! You found me, way to go, kid! That’s what I call using your brain power. If you want another clue, you’re nearly there, the next one is hiding with things for your hair…”
(Hide with hair brush/ties) “Brrr! It’s a little bit cold in the next little place. If you’re hungry you might find something to stuff in your face!”
(Hidden in fridge) “Aha! You’re so good with these clues, I bet you hardly have to try! For the next delicious egg, go the place where wet turns dry…”
(Hidden in dryer) “Phew, you found me just in time! For the next hidden egg, you open me up with a pull and a slide, and in the room where you shower is where I hide…”
(Hidden in tub/shower) “Congratulations ___, you have found the last egg! Thank you for playing with me this year, and I will see you again next year!” ⬇️
(Hide their final gift under their bed) OPTIONAL: “But wait, before I go, I have one final prize, the grandest of all! It’s time for your final surprise, so look very carefully with your clever eyes. I’ve left you some presents in a special place… under something soft, warm and cozy, in a bunny’s embrace. I’m sorry ____ , I can’t give you any more clues – think really hard and I’ll reveal my identity to you!
Hope you’re not falling asleep. The next egg you’ll find where you don’t make a peep…
